Malaysia's photo rules depend entirely on the platform you are applying through. A photo that is accepted for eVISA might face issues on the ESD portal.

eVISA: Requires a plain white background.
EMGS (Student Pass): White background. The pages show different physical sizes (35×45mm and 50mm high × 35mm wide); uploads use JPG, up to 217×280 px, and 25 KB maximum.
ESD (Employment): The sample PDF specifies a light blue background.
