Applying for a Czech short-stay visa from Japan

Who applies and where

Applications from Japan are received directly by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo. No jurisdictional split is stated; the honorary consulates in Naha and Sakai are not visa receiving offices. Applications are generally filed in person by the applicant.
Receiving office and the e-mail appointment system
Booking starts by sending an appointment request e-mail to the embassy's dedicated address, [email protected]. Visa reception runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00, with up to 18 applicants per designated session. Applications without a prior appointment cannot be accepted, and in summer the wait can exceed six weeks.
Once your appointment is fixed, appear at the embassy at the given time with the paper application form (downloaded from the bottom of the embassy page, form dated from 28 June 2024) completed and signed. There is no fully online submission and no digital photograph upload.
Required documents
The embassy's short-term visa page holds the purpose-based document lists (tourism, business, study, family visits, etc.). Besides the harmonised Schengen application form, prepare your passport, one photograph and purpose-specific documents such as proof of accommodation, invitations, travel insurance and flight reservations.

Photograph requirements: one 35×45 mm photo glued to the form
The embassy's document list states: one colour photograph (35×45 mm portrait, background white or a light colour — blue or grey is common — with the distance from the eyes to the chin at least 13 mm), glued to the field in the upper right corner of the application form. The dimensions are identical to the global Czechia photo standard (35×45 mm).
Note that the acceptable background (white or a light colour) is worded more broadly than the global page's white background — this is specific to the Tokyo mission's page. Fees and fingerprints (biometrics)
The visa fee is 16,560 JPY for a Schengen visa up to 90 days and 8,280 JPY for children aged 6 to 12 (as of 1 August 2026; the yen amount is revised monthly with the exchange rate). Cash payment is in Japanese yen only; if you wish to pay by credit card, say so at the beginning of your application.
Fingerprints are generally submitted in person when applying. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints and do not need to visit, and applicants who submitted fingerprints within the past 59 months need not repeat them (Czech MFA pages).
