Sweden residence permit passport copy document requirements
This guide shows confirmed document conditions and does not guess unspecified page counts or file limits.
Confirmed conditions
- Migrationsverket asks for copies where "All information in the passport must be clearly visible on the copies": personal details, the period of validity, the issuing country, the signature (wherever page of the passport it is on), residence rights in other countries, the machine-readable code on the identity page, the numbers and symbols at the top and bottom of the pages, and — for stamped pages — the entire stamped page.
- You can photograph or scan the pages of the passport and attach them in the e-service (paper copies apply when not applying in the e-service).
- The legibility of the copies (all information clearly visible) is officially required.
- No file format, numeric file-size cap, page count, colour, or merge policy exists on the official public pages and remains unregistered in the Requirement record.
What the official information confirms
For the Sweden residence permit (Migrationsverket e-service), attach the passport copies in the e-service. Citizens of Japan do not pay an application fee (official wording). A permit cannot be granted for a period longer than the validity of the passport.
Before a decision, the original passport must be presented in person, and the biometrics (fingerprints and a facial photo for the residence permit card) are a separate step (at the embassy or Migration Agency visit, or after arriving in Sweden). This tool prepares the document copies only and does not produce a face photo file.
The tool does not verify that every required piece of information is legible; the check remains the applicant's own action. Combining the pages into a single PDF is this tool's own configuration (the official wording allows attaching photographed or scanned pages).

How unspecified conditions are handled
Page counts, colours, and merge policies that the official source does not state are kept unspecified. Confirm the current conditions in the official portal before submission.

Frequently asked questions
Which pages must be copied?
Copies of the information pages needed so that all information is clearly visible (personal details, validity, issuing country, signature page, residence rights in other countries, the MRZ, the numbers and symbols on the pages, and full stamped pages). There is no requirement to include blank pages or the covers — a separate contract from the Denmark all-pages-and-covers and Norway all-used-pages wordings.
Is photographing or scanning both allowed?
Yes. The official wording states that you can photograph or scan the pages of the passport and attach them in the e-service (paper copies apply when not applying in the e-service).
What about the file format and size cap?
The official public pages (the passport-copies page and the work permit Employees page) publish no file format, numeric size cap, or page count (constraints inside the e-service can only be confirmed after login). The tool's 20MB cap is not an official value; it is the tool's own implementation limit, and combining the pages into a single PDF is likewise this tool's own configuration.
Do I need to pay an application fee?
Citizens of Japan do not pay an application fee (official wording). This tool prepares the copies only and does not submit applications or handle fees on your behalf.
