The image should be a square face photo, not a scanned print with borders or extra margins. If the photo is exported from a passport-photo kiosk or another app, check both the pixel dimensions and the final file size before uploading.

Face, background, and recency rules

The applicant should face the camera directly with eyes open and a neutral expression. The face needs to fill about 70% to 80% of the image, so a distant head-and-shoulders crop is usually too small.

Use a plain white background. Avoid visible shadows, patterned walls, borders around the image, sunglasses, eyeglasses, colored contacts, or hair covering the eyebrows-to-cheek area.
