What the official information confirms
For the Norway residence permit (UDI Application portal; the skilled worker and student checklists personalised for Japanese citizens), prepare copies of all used pages of the passport. If you hand in the application in Norway, you normally only need to show the passport and hand in the copies; when applying from abroad, both the passport and the copies are normally handed in. Documents not in Norwegian or English must be translated into Norwegian or English by an authorised translator (the translation must include the translator's name and the date).
