Austria Working Holiday Programme (WHP) photo requirements

What the official information confirms

For the Austria Working Holiday Programme (WHP, fee-free, participation limited to twice for Japan), the Visum D with the "WHP" annotation is lodged in person at the Austrian Embassy in Tokyo (Tokyo only, not VFS) by e-mail appointment, with the paper form signed by hand.

No digital upload scheme is mentioned anywhere on the official pages. This tool prepares the print photo only; the application remains the applicant's own action. The Austria Schengen C visa (35×45 mm print, plain-light, 6 months, VFS accepted) is a separate route, and its values are not inherited by the WHP.

• The WHP document line requires an ICAO-compliant biometric photo; the size is anchored to the same authority (Austrian Embassy Tokyo) publicly defining the ICAO format as "Farbe, 35x45 mm": 35 x 45 mm (width x height), colour.
• The required number of photos is 1 photo ("ein aktuelles Passbild im ICAO-Format").
• A blue background is not allowed ("kein blauer Hintergrund"). The officially permitted background colour is not specified.
• A neutral facial expression is officially required.
• Recency is given only as "aktuell" (current), with no month figure. Face geometry, DPI, and pixels are absent from all reviewed official pages.

How unspecified conditions are handled

The phrase “passport-size” and general photo practice are not converted into a fixed value such as 35×45 mm. In the Tool, enter the dimensions shown by the current application guidance.
