Spain Digital Nomad Visa photo requirements

This guide shows confirmed conditions and does not guess unspecified dimensions or file limits.

Preparing a face photo

What the official information confirms

The Spain digital nomad (telework / nómada digital) D visa follows two stages: (1) the electronic authorisation filed with the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas), and (2) the consular visa application at the Embassy of Spain in Japan (Tokyo, sole jurisdiction for Japan). Only stage (2) asks for a photograph, and this record covers the single printed photo of the consular stage.

A NIE (foreigner identity number) must be applied for at the same time as the visa. The visa is valid for one year (or the duration of the granted authorisation if shorter). Printing and bringing the photo remain the applicant's own actions (the tool prepares the print photo only — PREPARE ≠ SUBMIT).

  • The consular-stage (telework residence visa) document list at the Embassy of Spain in Tokyo states verbatim: "Fotografía. Una fotografía reciente, tamaño carné, a color, con fondo claro, tomada de frente...". One photograph, colour, light background, and facing forward are verbatim facts from the Tokyo page.
  • The authority publishes no photo dimensions in millimetres. The Tokyo page states only the qualitative "tamaño carné" (passport-photo size), with no numeric size, recency period, or face-geometry values. This page keeps the size unregistered and does not convert the qualitative wording into numbers. 35×45 mm is the adopted value of the separate Schengen C (short-stay) procedure, not a digital nomad visa requirement.
  • Two-stage structure: (1) No photo is required at the UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas) electronic authorisation stage. None of the official UGE document bundles (main applicant / family members) or the application form (Formulario MI-T) contains a photo box or photo submission requirement (verified against the full text of all three official PDFs on 2026-08-30). (2) A photograph is required only at the consular visa stage of the Embassy of Spain in Tokyo. A copy of the full passport serves as the identity document.

How unspecified conditions are handled

The phrase “passport-size” and general photo practice are not converted into a fixed value such as 35×45 mm. In the Tool, enter the dimensions shown by the current application guidance.

Using the web tool

  • Keep the application guidance available and enter the output type and dimensions you have confirmed.
  • No face guide is shown to fill in an official value that has not been confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I also need a photo for the UGE electronic authorisation?

No. Neither the UGE document bundles (main applicant / family members) nor the application form (Formulario MI-T) contains a photograph requirement (verified against the full text of the three official PDFs on 2026-08-30 - documented absence). A photograph is required only at the consular visa stage of the Embassy of Spain in Tokyo. A copy of the full passport serves as the identity document.
