Slovenia residence permit photo requirements
This guide shows confirmed conditions and does not guess unspecified dimensions or file limits.
Confirmed conditions
- The Slovenian residence permit application form (temporary residence, family reunification, 47. člen ZTuj) contains a photo box "prostor za fotografijo ali referenčna številka iz elektronskega odložišča fotografij" (photo box or reference number from the electronic photo repository), and the attachment list leads with the same item. The permanent residence permit page lists the same document. The printed photo is prepared for pasting into the paper form photo box (print channel).
- Submitting a photograph is one of two alternatives: applicants who can quote a reference number from the electronic photo repository (e.g. prior residence-permit holders) do not need to attach a photo. This page keeps that alternative intact.
- The authority publishes no photo dimensions in millimetres, no background colour, and no recency period: the form text states none, and the folkloric "30×35 mm" value appears in none of the official sources retrieved, so it is recorded as an unresolved contradiction and not adopted. The 3.5×4.5 cm value on e-uprava belongs to the passport (potni list) FAQ and is not applied to the residence permit photo. The Schengen C route (Embassy of Slovenia in Japan, ICAO reference) is a separate procedure whose values are not inherited.
What the official information confirms
Slovenian residence permits are handled under the Foreigners Act (ZTuj), with official forms distributed via the Infotujci portal. The temporary permit form (47. člen ZTuj, family reunification) and the permanent residence page share the same photo line, while the single permit (enotno dovoljenje) wording has not been captured verbatim, so this record keeps the routes under one umbrella without splitting them.
The fingerprint recording section of the form (IZPOLNI URADNA OSEBA) captures biometrics on-site by the authority and is separate from the attached photograph (PREPARE ≠ SUBMIT). Pasting the printed photo and submitting the application remain the applicant's own actions; the tool prepares the print photo only.

How unspecified conditions are handled
The phrase “passport-size” and general photo practice are not converted into a fixed value such as 35×45 mm. In the Tool, enter the dimensions shown by the current application guidance.

Frequently asked questions
Is a photo required for a Slovenia residence permit application?
Yes. The official temporary-residence application form contains a photo box or a reference number from the electronic photo repository, and its attachment list names the applicant's photograph or that reference number as the first item. The permanent-residence application uses the same alternative document line. Applicants already registered in the electronic photo repository, such as some people with prior temporary-residence experience, may use the reference number, so bringing a printed photo is not the only route. The official forms do not publish a millimetre size, background requirement, or recency period.
Does the application form specify a photo size?
No millimetre dimension is stated in the official residence-permit forms. Common claims such as 30×35 mm and 35×45 mm do not appear in those forms and are not adopted as residence-permit requirements. 35×45 mm is used in the separate Schengen C visa procedure, not this residence-permit procedure. If your current application guidance gives a dimension, enter that value in the Tool.
