Portugal National Visa (D) photo requirements

What the official information confirms

For a Portugal national visa (stays over 90 days — temporary stay, residency, CPLP, youth mobility, and other purposes), the MFA document pages list two printed photographs as a common document. This record keeps the purpose-specific routes under one umbrella without splitting routes, because the photo artifact does not change. Japan is covered solely by the Embassy of Portugal in Tokyo, with no external provider.

Submission is in person at the embassy counter (no mailing or proxy). Printing and bringing the photos remain the applicant's own actions (the tool prepares the print photo only — PREPARE ≠ SUBMIT). The decree-level plain background (fundo liso) does not specify a colour. Where the Embassy of Portugal in Tokyo mentions a white background in its general requirements, that is a route-specific mission instruction kept source-separated, not promoted to a central rule.

• The Portugal MFA national visa document pages (identical wording on the temporary stay, residency, and CPLP pages) require "2 Photos, even, passport type, recent and in good condition to identify the applicant", and Decree-Regulation 84/2007 Art. 12.º(1)(a) confirms two identical passport-type photographs in colour on a plain background. The count of two, the colour, and the plain background are confirmed in two official layers.
• The authority publishes no photo dimensions in millimetres. None of the four official layers — the MFA document pages, the Embassy of Portugal in Tokyo page, the route-specific checklist, or the decree — states a numeric size (confirmed as negative evidence). This page keeps the size unregistered. 35×45 mm is the adopted value of the separate Schengen C (short-stay) procedure, not a National visa requirement.
