Official requirements guide
Malta National Visa (D) photo requirements
This guide shows confirmed conditions and does not guess unspecified dimensions or file limits.
Confirmed conditions
- The official page requires the digital photo to be 240 x 320 pixels (width x height) at least; a smaller picture is rejected. This is a minimum, not an exact size.
- The photo must keep a 35 x 45 mm (width x height) proportion within limits, as officially required.
- The only accepted format is JPEG (BMP / TIFF / GIF / PNG and the like are explicitly rejected).
- File-size limit confirmed in the official record: within 120 KB.
- The face must occupy 70-80% of the photo and the background must be plain light-White, as officially required.
- The photo must be no more than 6 months old, as officially required.
What the official information confirms
For a Malta National Visa (Long Stay D, over 90 days up to 365 days) application via VFS Malta Extended Services (Japan), a digital photo is added to the application. The same official page also lists one printed photograph glued to the application form and an in-person intake including a biometric appointment.
This tool prepares the digital photo file only; gluing the print photograph, the in-person VFS intake, and the biometric appointment remain the applicant's own actions. The Malta Schengen visa (35×45 mm print) is a separate route, and the digital photo values are not promoted to it.
