Confirmed conditions

What the official information confirms

A first application for an Iceland residence permit (work permit = D-107 form / spouse route) is submitted to the Directorate of Immigration (Útlendingastofnun) on paper by regular mail or via the drop box. A 35×45 mm passport photo is one of the required documents, stated verbatim on both the D-107 form PDF and the island.is spouse supporting-documents page (re-fetched and re-verified 2026-08-30).

The photo for the residence permit card itself is a separate step after approval: an in-person photo appointment at the Directorate or a district commissioner within 90 days of the grant (failing to attend means no permit is issued). It belongs to a separate authority-side layer from the photo mailed with the application and is not an artifact this tool produces. The Iceland Schengen visa (schengen.iceland.visa-photo) shares the same 35×45 mm size but is a separate route, and its values are not shared or promoted.

  • The official sources require a 35 x 45 mm (width x height) passport photo (two matching sources: the D-107 form "Passport photo (35 mm x 45 mm)." and the island.is spouse page "The passport photo should be 35x45 mm.").
  • The application must be submitted in its original form on paper, sent by regular mail or delivered to the drop box at the Directorate's reception ("Applications must be submitted in their original form on paper."). No digital photo upload route exists for first applications; you print the photo and mail it with your documents yourself (this tool prepares the print photo only and does not mail it for you).
  • The background colour, face geometry (head size / eye line), recency, and the number of photos are not stated on either the D-107 form or the spouse page, and remain unregistered in the Requirement record (no values are inherited from other countries' 6-month rules or the C-visa; the singular wording is not read as exactly one photo).
  • The tool shows a generic 35×45 mm face guide as a reference frame from an existing app-recommendation; it is not an official composition rule (the authority publishes no face geometry).

How unspecified conditions are handled

The phrase “passport-size” and general photo practice are not converted into a fixed value such as 35×45 mm. In the Tool, enter the dimensions shown by the current application guidance.

Using the web tool

  • Keep the application guidance available and enter the output type and dimensions you have confirmed.
  • No face guide is shown to fill in an official value that has not been confirmed.
  • After editing and review, confirm the accepted format and conditions in the application portal before submitting.
