Confirmed conditions

What the official information confirms

On the Germany Consular Services Portal (digital.diplo.de) Studies route (university studies, National D), the portal submission is mandatory for study applications in Japan. The official warning states that "incorrectly uploaded documents or incomplete applications will extend processing times".

The embassy visit after pre-checking (original presentation, face photo, fingerprints, fee) and bringing the printed application photo are separate steps: document upload ≠ photo upload. The tool only prepares the admission letter PDF; uploading to the portal and the visit remain the applicant's own actions.

  • The Japan study page requires the letter of acceptance issued by a German university / language school / college (including the language of instruction), original and one copy.
  • The portal per-file size cap is confirmed in the official record: within 10 MB.
  • The portal accepts PDF / JPG / PNG (the uploadEnvelope is authoritative). Multi-page documents are officially required to be PDF, and this record's artifact family is PDF.
  • Page count, minimum size, colour, and page ranges are not specified by the authority; the in-portal "Your documents" checklist is only visible after signing in, so its contents remain UNKNOWN.

How unspecified conditions are handled

Page counts, colours, and merge policies that the official source does not state are kept unspecified. Confirm the current conditions in the official portal before submission.

Using the web tool

  • Keep the application guidance available and check the confirmed file conditions.

Frequently asked questions

The portal per-file cap is at most 10MB (basis unspecified). The portal accepts PDF / JPG / PNG, and multi-page documents are officially required to be PDF.

Where is the original presented?

The Japan study page requires the "original and one copy". The portal upload is the copy; the original is presented at the embassy visit after pre-checking (a separate step).

Do I also upload an application photo?

No. The application photo is not part of the portal upload and is brought in printed form at the visit (a separate step). Document upload ≠ photo upload.
