Bulgaria National Visa (D) photo requirements

What the official information confirms

The Bulgaria Visa D (long-stay) can only be applied for at the diplomatic and consular mission covering the applicant's permanent residence, and VISA_TYPE_D.pdf allows no exception from the personal interview for long-stay visa applications ("Obligatory personal interview ... No exception"). The application is a paper set brought in person; no official digital photo upload rule exists.

Printing and bringing the photo remain the applicant's own actions (the tool prepares the print photo only). Although the Bulgaria Schengen C photo (35×45 mm print) shares the same size, the mission application with the obligatory interview is a different workflow, and the C-visa record is not shared or promoted. Photo requirements for the Digital Nomad permit and residence permits are out of scope for this record because their official checklists have not been obtained.

• The official common documents list requires "A full color photograph 3,5 cm х 4,5 cm against light-colored background". The size is 35 x 45 mm (width x height) (the official wording "3,5 cm х 4,5 cm" means 35 mm wide by 45 mm high), and the background is stated verbatim as "light-colored background" (not pinned to white).
• The same document list line states the face occupancy as "a full-face photo with clear, large enough face which takes up 70-80% of the photo". This page shows the official 70–80% (share of the photo) as stated and does not convert it into millimetre values.
• For recency, the authoritative wording is "Recent passport-size color photograph" in the D visa document sheet (VISA_TYPE_D.pdf) — a qualitative term with no month count. The photo count is likewise not registered as a numeric rule: both lists use only the singular "A ... photograph".
• The same page lists ineligible examples verbatim — "photos with dark glasses; non-professional photos or cut out of amateur photos" — and states "eyes must be red". These official wordings are kept as-is and are not converted into tool checker rules.

How unspecified conditions are handled

The phrase “passport-size” and general photo practice are not converted into a fixed value such as 35×45 mm. In the Tool, enter the dimensions shown by the current application guidance.
